New Data Center

We're moving to a new data center in August! I'm very excited because it will allow us to implement features we have wanted for several years.

The biggest advantage is the ability to manage our server locations. Imagine a hurricane is heading for the east coast of the US, then several days before it arrives we move our complete web host system to Texas or the west coast, then move it back when the weather is better.

This shuffling of data to alternate regions is nothing new, but can be very expensive. Which is why only very large companies could afford it. The "shuffles" can be done very quickly so web access and email is never affected. Very cool stuff.

Another cool feature is unlimited storage expansion. We still have to pay for the storage space, but we aren't limited to 2x 60 Gb hard drives per server or whatever. So if one of our customers wants to upload their entire iTunes collection we won't be scrambling for space to hold it.

The move will be a gradual migration one piece at a time to keep things nice, orderly, and predictable. We've done our job when our customers never have to think about their web host provider.
